After students have successfully completed the Christian Science nursing courses levels 1 and 2, students may apply for level 3.
This course is 5 weeks in the classroom and 8 weeks mentoring. Tuition for this course is $2,500. (Students may apply to the Albert Baker Fund for assistance).
In the Level 3 course, students will train in cleansing and bandaging wounds while building on the skills learned in Levels 1 and 2. Students will learn how to make advanced assessments and manage sudden needs. Students will study the role of the Christian Science Nurse in a variety of settings including private homes, Christian Science camps, and even hospitals.
The vision for all activities in this course is to help the individual Christian Scientist understand the principles and purpose of Christian Science nursing in the context of Christianity and to support the trained Christian Science nurse in maintaining a right practice of Christian Science nursing.
Also, mid-way through or after the 8 weeks of mentoring, students will have an opportunity to spend time shadowing a Journal-Listed Christian Science Nurse with the Los Angeles Christian Science Visiting Nurse Service. During this time students will make home care visits, assess the needs of patients, give Christian Science nursing care, and take a look at the behind-the-scenes work of the service.
A student who has successfully completed this course and demonstrated a thorough practice of these skills is qualified to apply for listing as a Christian Science nurse in the Christian Science Journal.
