Healing Moments – September 2015 Newsletter

From our Visiting Christian Science Nurse Service:

This healing is a wonderful testimony proving that a physical problem, which had evidenced itself for some time and where history tried to give a problem authenticity, is devoid of Truth.

I was called because an individual needed help bandaging an area on the foot. The client’s Christian Science practitioner had recommended she call us so she could look away from the challenge and stay completely immersed in her metaphysical studying. The cleansing and bandaging took little time. A greater portion of my time with the client was spent in metaphysical sharing. The aggressive world beliefs about wounds not healing, along with fears about the delay in healing was what we were rooting out of thought. We also discussed the negative beliefs associated with “Time” and the importance of staying in the NOW. Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says “Today is big with blessings” and“Now is the accepted time” in her work Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.

Pain was also an aggressive intrusion into the client’s thought. The client said later, “It seemed to take a while, but the pain did subside. I got better at addressing it metaphysically. All the mental intrusions were confronted head on.” Her “distraction tools”, as she called them, were Mrs. Eddy’s writings, the Bible, hymns, and JSH-online recordings. Together, she and I saw these mental intrusions as opportunities to affirm God’s allness and omnipresence. She worked with this quote in Miscellaneous Writings by Mary Baker Eddy: “Be active, and, however slow, thy success is sure: toil is triumph…” This brought the promise that her prayerful work would be successful.

I was in constant communication with the client’s practitioner during this time. Initially, I was seeing the client 2 to 3 times a week. At some point, daily visits became necessary. I’m not sure exactly when, but the area started decreasing in size. The client recalls: “While I appreciated my non-involvement with the physical situation, more important to me was the daily uplifting thought and the ideas the [Christian Science] nurse shared. I looked forward to her visits, her metaphysical ideas, and her upbeat, encouraging thought. The nurse’s calmness did a great deal to eliminate the fear.”

This individual’s healing was complete, and the gratitude and lessons learned continue to inspire both of us.
