Everyone Can Afford to be Healed
Do you ever hesitate to call a Christian Science practitioner or to ask for Christian Science nursing care because of the cost?
This could be fairly seen as an aspect of the “unnatural reluctance” that Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, discusses in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures on page 420:
If students do not readily heal themselves, they should early call an experienced Christian Scientist to aid them. If they are unwilling to do this for themselves, they need only to know that error cannot produce this unnatural reluctance.
“It costs too much” is just a belief of reluctance. If we are looking at the obstacles to healing such as cost, we are not turning away from material sense so that we can be healed. To handle this belief, it might be helpful to ask a few questions like the following –
- Can healing ever lead to poverty?
- Has divine Love always met “every human need1“, except mine?
- Or, a tough one, am I as committed to my healing as I am to my money?
If these questions stir thought a bit, we can go back to Mrs. Eddy’s statement cited earlier, and know, about any hesitancy to call for aid, cost or otherwise, that “error cannot produce this unnatural reluctance.”
Christian Science provides us with true ideas to correct each commonly accepted human mistake. Our hymnal guides us to this logical conclusion – Gratitude for those who help with my healing – Christian Science practitioners and Christian Science nurses in particular, is riches. Complaint about the cost of their services is poverty2.
Broadview offers help in a number of ways – through a financial assistance program, discount and extended payment plans, and by providing house calls in six counties from our Visiting Christian Science Nurse Service at no charge for the Christian Science nurses’ time.
A basic fact is – Everyone can afford to be healed. No one can afford not to be healed.
Our movement needs your healing. Mankind needs to hear your “pinnacle of praise3“. It is a practical answer to the call Mary Baker Eddy makes in Miscellaneous Writings (117:1) – “Never was there a more solemn and imperious call than God makes to us all, right here, for fervent devotion and an absolute consecration to the greatest and holiest of all causes. The hour is come.”
Just some things to think about – “without money and without price.4“
